Without a doubt, one of the best series that Spain had to offer last year was Locomia, a Movistar Plus+ documentary directed by Jorge Laplace and divided into three extremely entertaining episodes that described the rise, sparkling success and fall of one of the most singular music groups manufactured by the Spanish record industry during the 1980s and 1990s. In it, we were told of the resounding and fascinating rivalry between the frontman of the band and their producer. Now, a fiction feature by Kike Maíllo (A Perfect Enemy [+lire aussi :

The shoot began on 18 May and took place on location in and around Barcelona, as well as on Tenerife, over a seven-week period. The feature is now in the editing and post-production phase, with the intention being to attain the same public and critical success as the aforementioned series enjoyed.

The movie was written by the director together with Marta Libertad (Oswald. El falsificador, the most recent work by Maíllo), is being produced by Kiko Martínez and stars Jaime Lorente (whom we saw not long ago in the horror flick Tin & Tina [+lire aussi :

According to the team behind it, this is a film about music, glitz and glamour, family, ambition and betrayal, which will examine the ins and outs of club culture, the golden age of record labels, the nightlife of the Madrid Scene, the fan phenomenon and the explosion of Latin music in Miami.

The storyline unfolds in Spain in the mid-1980s: a group of pals, led by Xavi Font (played by Jaime Lorente), has just arrived on Ibiza, chasing their dream of working in fashion. There, they are discovered by producer José Luís Gil (Alberto Ammann), a music-industry mogul in search of new talent to form a group. Without even being able to sing, the boys embark on a career that takes them from living as hippies on the Balearic island to filling Latin American stadiums to the rafters and revolutionising half the world’s nightclubs. They created a new style, were chased non-stop by their fans and became millionaires… Even though they had to sacrifice their freedom (by concealing their homosexuality) in order to achieve it.

Disco, Ibiza, Locomia is a Nadie es Perfecto production, in co-production with La chica de la curva and SBD Films, which boasts the involvement of Atresmedia, Netflix and TV3. Its Spanish theatrical release is scheduled for 19 April 2024, courtesy of DeAPlaneta, while its international sales will be overseen by Film Factory.
